About the Cross Border Seminar
Euroguidance Cross Border Seminar (CBS) is one of the valuable international professional development initiatives of the Euroguidance Network. The seminar, which has been held annually since 2005, serves as a platform for exchanging knowledge, experiences, and innovative practices in career guidance and counselling.
Originally initiated by Euroguidance Centres from Austria, Czechia, and Slovakia, the seminar now includes participation from 11 European countries: Austria, Croatia, Czechia, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, and Slovenia; with one country hosting the seminar each year. Each organising country is represented by a delegation of practitioners, experts, and policy-makers, all of whom contribute to the seminar’s content and quality.
Focusing on a different guidance-relevant topic each year, the seminar features plenary sessions, panel discussions and thematic workshops led by experts, addressing key trends and methodologies in the field. It also offers ample opportunities for networking and cultural exchange during the informal parts of the programme. The working language of the seminar is English.
Following the seminar, expert articles summarizing workshop outcomes are compiled into a joint Seminar Compendium, which is published on the seminar’s official website and shared on the Euroguidance Network website.

Guidance in Vocational Education and Training
This year’s Euroguidance Cross Border Seminar will address the topic of “Guidance in Vocational Education and Training (VET)”, considering the unique context of vocational schools where students have already embarked on their desired career path. Taking into account a very unique set of challenges for the provision of career guidance, the seminar will present effective approaches to career guidance and counselling tailored to the needs of students in vocational schools.
The programme will highlight the importance of collaboration among schools, employers, students and parents, as well as the need for continuous professional development of vocational teachers and career counsellors to stay aligned with labour market trends and provide high-quality guidance for students.
Following the results of a national study – where Croatian practitioners identified the need for better collaboration between schools, institutions, employers, parents and students, as well as the need for high-quality professional development of vocational teachers and career counsellors to stay in line with industry trends and labour market demands – it will be interesting to compare and contrast how different countries respond to the main challenges for guidance provision in VET.
How to participate
This year’s Euroguidance Cross Border Seminar will welcome approximately 80 career guidance professionals, policy-makers and experts in vocational education and training. Participants from each of the 11 seminar countries are selected by their national Euroguidance centres, who organise and cover their travelling expenses.
There is no participation fee for the seminar.
If you are interested in taking part in the Cross Border Seminar, we invite you to contact your national Euroguidance centre in Austria, Croatia, Czechia, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia or Slovenia.
Organisers
Euroguidance centre Croatia is located at the Agency for Mobility and EU Programmes, the National Agency for the implementation of the Erasmus+ Programme in Croatia. The centre supports guidance provision in Croatia by providing professional development opportunities for guidance counsellors in education and employment, sharing best practices in career counselling across Europe and providing information on mobility opportunities for those interested in studying or training abroad.
Its core activities focus on guidance practitioners in educational and employment, including school expert associates – psychologists and pedagogues, and Croatian Employment Service counsellors. The secondary target group includes all potential beneficiaries of guidance, such as pupils, students, teachers in general education and VET, adult learners, and the unemployed, completing Euroguidance Croatia’s mission to expand learning and career development opportunities.
About the Euroguidance Network
The Euroguidance Network is a collaborative network of national resource and information centers dedicated to enhancing career guidance systems across Europe. Operating in EU and EEA member states, as well as candidate countries, Euroguidance primarily serves guidance practitioners and policymakers in both the education and employment sectors.
With a strong commitment to fostering a European dimension in lifelong guidance, Euroguidance focuses on three core objectives: supporting the professional development of guidance practitioners, raising awareness of international mobility benefits, and facilitating information exchange on European guidance practices. While activities vary by country, the network consistently works towards strengthening national guidance systems through international cooperation, training events, and study visits.
Another important aspect of Euroguidance’s work is promoting high-quality information on lifelong guidance and mobility. This includes collecting and sharing knowledge on international study and work opportunities, education and training systems across Europe, and innovative projects in the field. By fostering collaboration among stakeholders and providing essential resources, Euroguidance plays a vital role in advancing guidance practices and supporting mobility for learning purposes.
